Colin Passant, UX Designer
UX Designer | Public | Digital | Design

What’s your background?
I have been in UX design for about 14 years, my first role was at Sony Ericsson as an interaction designer, starting on the amazing p910i (if anyone can remember this). A few years later, I then moved into the world of contracting, which opened my eyes of how diverse the UX design can be, from working in marine technologies to later working in the financial sector. During this time, I have worked on a number of wonderful and enjoyable projects from designing simple to use boat instruments, critical for sailing in rough seas, to leading the redesigning of M&S bank journeys providing simple, responsive and accessible designs, allowing customers to apply for products online with ease.

Describe your role at Difrent
I joined Difrent for a new challenge in August 2019. Breaking into the world of GDS and accessibility standards working on meaningful public sector interfaces. As a UX designer at DWP Blackpool office, my role is not just about delivering good looking designs that use GDS standard, but ensuring the designs meet the end customer and business needs. Using different methodologies from persona creation and journey mapping through to user testing and critic reviews.

Who are you outside of Difrent?
I would say my life outside Difrent mainly revolves around my wonderful wife (if she’s reading) and my 2 kids (8 and 5). If I am not picking the kids up from school, be sure I will be tootling them across town taking them to after school activities or parties at the weekend. When I do get my free moments, I am a keen runner and planning a couple of 10k’s later this year.

Who would you invite to dinner, dead or alive?
It might come down to what’s on the menu, Chinese, Mexican or maybe Italian. Hmm? But who would I invite??? Perhaps a random party and see what happens, Harry Rednapp, Angela Merkel, Clint Eastwood and finally Merry Berry, as I definitely have a sweet tooth :P
