Debbie Laird, Head of Operations
Operations | Compliance | Digital

What’s your background?
A rather zig-zag path, via TV (scheduling commercials), Newspaper (selling advertising space) before landing on the right career path for me, Operations. Most recently I was the Operations Manager for Equal Experts and managing Ops, HR and their compliance with those dreaded four letters “GDPR”. My skills lie in organisation, planning, communication and just getting things done - Delivery!

Describe your role at Difrent
I will be responsible for the day to day management of Difrent’s internal operations and laying the operational foundations so that Difrent can grow exponentially. I’ll also help to improve processes and procedures, and I will encourage and nurture the fantastic Difrent culture that Rachel and Steve have created.

Who are you outside of Difrent?
My biggest love (except my partner Darron) is travelling and exploring new places, countries and cultures. My favourite destination this year was India, it’s such a magical, vibrant, colourful place, with amazing food and they have Uber Moto! I think everyone should visit at least once in their lifetime.

I am a really active person, and if I’m not walking around London, I’m at the gym doing yoga or HIIT class, my favourite at the moment is Aerial Yoga - really fun but really challenging! I’m also a keen diver and have been lucky enough to see dolphins, turtles, eagle rays and manatees on my recent explorations under water. To let my hair down, I listen to music, preferably on a dance floor or at a festival, with friends and for some much needed down time I enjoy reading and watching Netflix.

Who would you invite to dinner, dead or alive?
Oh, this is a difficult one! I like a large dinner party so I would invite the Dalai Lama for his wisdom, Robin Williams, Bridget Christie and Lee Mack for their quick-witted natural comedy, Judi Dench for the naughty twinkle in her eye, Stephen Fry for his encyclopaedic knowledge, oh and Heston Blumenthal to do the cooking, as I wouldn’t want to miss a minute of the party!
