What’s your background?
My background is primarily in marketing, sales and business growth. I’ve always used an agile outcome-focused approach to drive positive change across these roles.
Over the past 5 years, I grew the UK arm of a pan-European open-source agency and diversified their services from a dev shop to a full-service outcome delivery business, co-founded an agency delivering no-deal Brexit contingency services, and consulted major brands on social media customer service and user-centred customer experience.
In growing past agencies, I’ve played a variety of other roles covering back-office management and client project delivery - including Product Owner, Consultant, Delivery Manager and User Researcher - with organisations such as Kew Gardens and the Food Standards Agency.
It’s been a whirlwind of good challenges and I’ve loved every minute of it.
Describe your role at Difrent
As Head of Growth, I’m part of the Senior Leadership Team and help coordinate our activities towards achieving our company’s growth goals set by our CEO and Board. This involves working closely with our Directors and directly supporting our Marketing, Sales and Recruitment teams.
I’ve only been in the role for a week and I’m truly proud of everything about Difrent, our people, our clients, our positive culture and ethos. It’s all amazing! No wonder we’re winning awards.
Who are you outside of Difrent?
Last year my incredible partner made me a father and I’ve got a lovely little girl who keeps me entertained.
I’ve played rugby for many years to National 2 standard, as a tighthead prop and hooker, but now enjoy watching London Wasps and the regular international matches.
I also help local businesses in Southend-on-Sea better attract and serve their customers and enjoy reading about social psychology.
Who would you invite to dinner, dead or alive?
Dave Grohl from Foo Fighters, hands down. He played such a big part in the punk and grunge music movements that I loved listening to as a teenager so I’d love to hear some of his stories. I’d probably have to invite my brother though, he’s a die-hard Grohl fan.
Rachel Murphy and Steve Dhillon sit down to discuss Difrent in 2019 and visions for 2020.
